On July 2, 2024, DMMMSU-NARTDI collaborated with Regional Field Office 1 (DA-RFO1) Livestock Division to strengthen the beekeeping industry in Region 1 to address the pressing needs for queen bee production.
The DA-RFO1 Livestock Division sought the expertise and assistance of NARTDI to develop strategic plans for the project’s implementation. This collaboration is expected to bring about significant improvements in the region’s beekeeping practices.
Ms. Karen F. Paningbatan, livestock focal person from DA-RFO1, and Ms. Jerlyn L. Orejudos, livestock division planning officer, emphasized that the primary beneficiaries of this initiative are farmers’/beekeepers’ cooperatives and associations. By focusing on queen bee production, the project aims to provide beekeepers with the necessary resources to increase hive productivity.
As a result of the collaboration, both offices have agreed to develop a detailed project proposal outlining the objectives and strategies for implementing the project. They will also craft a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to strengthen their partnership and set a timeline for the project’s milestones.
Both parties are optimistic about the outcomes of this collaboration. They believe that through concerted efforts and strategic planning, the beekeeping industry in Region 1 will not only experience substantial growth and development but also set a new standard for beekeeping practices, benefiting not only the local farmers/beekeepers but also the broader agricultural community.
