Senior Citizen’s Association from Isabela explore beekeeping processes at DMMMSU-NARTDI

Forty-seven (47) elderly from Santiago City, Isabela, toured Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-National Apiculture Research Training and Development Institute (DMMMSU-NARTDI) in Bacnotan, La Union, on June 4, 2024.

They were received by NARTDI, led by Executive Director Dr. Joseph A. Panas. The visit commenced with an enlightening orientation by Mr. Arvin C. Tuyan, the Head of the NARTDI Extension Division, who shared a brief overview of the Institute’s mission. This was followed by a tour of the honey-extracting facility and the bee product packaging area. During the tour, the visitors observed and learned various activities in beekeeping, from the bee yard to product packaging.

The seniors were particularly fascinated by the bees’ lifecycle as they received engaging information about the biology of honeybees.

This immersive instilled a sense of achievement among the seniors, making it a memorable event. They also bought honey as a souvenir.

The trip was organized as part of the association’s ongoing efforts to engage its members in meaningful activities that promote lifelong learning and well-being.
